Musical Styles Assignment

Musical Styles Assignment

  • Sitar/Tabla Ravi Shankar/Chatur Lal, Raga Mishra Piloo
    • This piece of art has a fast style, soft and in some moments loud. It fits perfect for a quiet listening moment, where you can meditate or just relax; there are no voices involved that’s why it is even more relaxing. Listening to this style of music I can say that its sounds difficult to play because of the fast style it has.
    • This song was recorded in 1963 and is imbued of divinity a kind of mantra and is considered a dialogue with God. Ravi Shankar and Chatur Lal here transport you to a world where music is redefined. It is kind of a religious tradición.
  • I Should Have Know Better - The Beatles
    • This song was composed by The Beatles, recorded in February 25th and 26th of 1964 and published in July 10th of the same year. This song has a soft and slow-medium style, with a pop rock genre is ideal for listening while driving your car or maybe when doing something else, and because of the lyrics you can also sing along. In my opinion with a good knowledge in guitar and with a complete band you can perform this song.
    • Instruments:
      • drums
      • bass
      • acoustic Guitar
      • electric guitar
      • Harmonica

  • Wesley Willis-Rock'n' Roll McDonalds

    • In my opinion this is an amazing song. This is the perfect song for dancing and have fun with your friends. This song has a loud and fast style what makes it unique. Wesley Willis is the composer of this song and also the singer. While listening to this song you can hear drums, a bass and a guitar.
    •  There is no to much information of this song because it is not popular at all. In my point of view it hears easy to play. I think that he did this song to humiliate McDonalds or maybe he just enjoy saying random thing in his songs.
  • God Bless The Child - Billie Holiday
    • A really slow and soft song but also really good, with the jazz genre it is ideal for listen to it and relax or while eating at a restaurant. Billie Holiday is the singer in this song. There are a variety of instrument for performing this song, so it might me sort of difficult to play it.
    • This son was recorded in May 9 of 1941. This song was included in the list of the songs of the century and also was honored with the Grammy Hall Of Fame Award. This song was inspired in a phrase Holiday’s mother told her during an argument between them both.
    • Instruments:
      • Piano
      • Trumpet
      • Alto Saxophone
      • Guitar
      • Bass
      • Drums

  • Malagueña Salerosa
    • A very distinctive song of Mexico created in 1947 because of the use of the mariachi genre. I really like the Mexican music and I enjoyed listening to this one. Is a slow and soft song that you can listen in a Mexican feast. The them of this song is about a man in love who says to a Spanish woman how pretty she is and the beautiful eyes she has although she ignores him because of his material poverty.
    • As it uses the mariachi we can guess they use the instruments of a mariachi band: “guitarrón”, trumpet, violin, “vihuela” and harp. The mariachi is an art and for playing this song you need coordination between all the instruments and the voice.

Spanish Civil War

Spanish Civil War

The war started in July 17th, 1936 when the right wing of Spain made a first attempt to make a coup d’etat, but it failed. The war consisted in the fight between the dominant groups of Spain during the restauration and the workers and bourgois, the first ones mentioned believed that a revolution was comming and after the elections they opted to do the coup d’etat.

Mexico and URSS provided the republic with guns and militar asesory through the Communist party and international brigades of people who wanted to fight against the fascism. In the other hand,  the kingdom of Italy, the Nazi Germany and the republic of Portugal supported Francisco Franco with guns and the Condor Legion in eschange of minerals and other products. Italy sent the Corpo Truppe. UK, USA and France were really prudent and didn't get involve.

This way both sides were becoming bigger and stronger until May 5th, 1937 in Barcelona, when the anarquists lost this encounter and it caused the rupture of the governement. After that day, another government was formed but it couldn’t stand the progress of Franco’s troops, so Juan Nergín formulated a treat called "Thirteen Point Program", which wanted to end the war by stablishing the republic again.
Finally, the lack of food and supplies and the recognition from France and Great Britain to Hitler’s Sudetes caused discouragement to the republicans who finally lost Cataluña in 1939 and ended with the recognition of Franco’s government in Spain.

In may of 1915, the RMS Lusitania sailed into warring waters. After being hit by a torpedo, the Lusitania sank in 18 minutes taking down 1200 souls with her. A torpedo from a german U-boat made impact with the Lusitania in its hull, and the impact made all the people aware of the terrible position of the ship. Then the Lusitania began to fail, and also explosions were presented. T

he ship was seriously damaged. The boat crew planned a way to evacuate the boat and also to solve the problem in the boat and also they sent the SOS signal for help, but because of the huge impact of the torpedo the water got really quickly inside to the boat, so the captain ordered to quickly evacuate the boat in the lifeboats. The electricity was totally off and the screams were presented in every single part of the boat.

The crew shouted "Women and Children first!" so they can go first in evacuating the boat. The lifeboats were going away and some people who fell down to the sea were swimming for surviving
After 18 minutes of terror, the Lusitania finally sunk, taking lots of lives with her.
